‘Welcome to the family of God’: SoCal Harvest celebrates 30th anniversary with 8,677 professions of faith

“I keep doing these crusades year after year because I want to take as many people with me to heaven as I possibly can.”
— Greg Laurie

ANAHEIM, Calif.SoCal Harvest is celebrating its 30th anniversary of holding crusades in Southern California the same way it did after its first crusade in 1990: with thousands of changed lives.

The three-night outreach event drew 100,000 people to Angel Stadium, where they enjoyed performances by Grammy Award and Dove Award-winning artists, fireworks, celebrity guest appearances and a military appreciation ceremony. But the highlight of the weekend was Greg Laurie’s nightly presentation of the gospel.

Each night he invited attendees to make a profession of faith, and each night thousands responded. As the sun set over Angel Stadium on Sunday, 3,852 people had gotten up from their seats and walked onto the field to make a public profession of faith, bringing the total number of decisions to follow Jesus throughout the weekend to 8,677.

“Welcome to the family of God,” read the scoreboards at Angel Stadium as fireworks lit the evening sky in celebration.

Laurie, who this weekend focused his messages on the theme of hope, delivered a message titled “Happiness, Hope and Heaven.”

“Don’t put your hope in technology. Don’t put your hope in material things. Don’t put your hope in politicians. Don’t put your hope even in religion.

“Hope has a name, and it’s Jesus Christ, and he is here with us tonight, and he is ready to change the course of your life,” Laurie said.

Earlier in the evening, Laurie interviewed MLB All-Star and World Series Champion Darryl Strawberry, who shared about his upbringing in a home with an alcoholic father, successful baseball career and struggles with substance abuse and addiction. At the lowest points in his life, Strawberry was sentenced to time in jail and sent to rehab, but upon being released, he met his wife Tracy who helped him find faith in Jesus.

Speaking of his struggles, Strawberry said, “Whatever is killing you, Jesus already killed it.”

The final evening of SoCal Harvest featured music by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Chris Tomlin, Newsboys and Phil Wickham. Author and radio host Eric Metaxas offered an opening prayer. The evening ended with a firework show over Angel Stadium.

SoCal Harvest 2019 was the 30th crusade in a row Harvest has put on in Southern California, making it the longest-running evangelistic outreach event in U.S. history. The first two evenings featured performances by Grammy Award-winning pop duo for KING & COUNTRY, hip-hop artist Lecrae, Dove Award-winning singer-songwriter Jeremy Camp, the Passion worship band, guitarist Dennis Agajanian and Graham Saber.

On opening night, Harvest honored military members with a special ceremony that included a U.S. flag unfurled across the stadium’s field as Brennley Brown, finalist of The Voice, sang “God Bless America.” Former Navy SEAL and Actor Remi Adeleke and Actress Madeline Carroll of the smash hit “I Can Only Imagine” offered opening prayers. Laurie also interviewed film director Jon Erwin along with Jeremy Camp about “I Still Believe,” a new film about Camp’s life that is coming out in March.

SoCal Harvest 2019 also was the kick-off event of Harvest’s 2020 Vision to launch a “Jesus Revolution” through crusades in Southern California and Boise, Idaho. The tour will end with a crusade in 2021 at Los Angeles Stadium at Hollywood Park, currently under construction. The Harvest team wants to reach over 1 million people and see 100,000 professions of faith through the crusades.

Since 1990, Harvest crusades have been held in the United States, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. More than 8 million people have attended Laurie’s crusades in person or via broadcast online and on TV. More than 500,000 people have made professions of faith in Christ at Harvest crusades.

“I keep doing these crusades year after year because I want to take as many people with me to heaven as I possibly can,” Laurie said.

ANAHEIM, Calif.SoCal Harvest held its second evangelistic crusade Saturday evening with a crowd of 34,000 who came to Angel Stadium to listen to performances by award-winning artists and a message of hope by Pastor and Evangelist Greg Laurie.

Laurie, who this year celebrates 30 years of holding Harvest crusades in Southern California, invited attendees to respond to the gospel. At the close of the evening, 2,675 people had walked down from the stands onto the field to make a profession of faith.

“You have an appointment with God tonight. This is your night to come into a relationship with Jesus Christ,” Laurie said.

Laurie, who throughout the weekend has focused on the high levels of depression and anxiety in America, especially among younger generations, delivered a message titled “God’s answer to fear, worry and anxiety.”

Drawing on Jesus’ words in John 14, in which he tells his disciples he will prepare a place for them in heaven, Laurie said, “I have hope tonight for the hopeless generation. I have hope for the millennials, for Generation Z and baby boomers.

“You can go from hopeless to hope, from emptiness to fulfillment and from guilt to forgiveness. Because hope has a name, and it’s Jesus Christ, and he is here to change your life tonight.”

The second evening of the three-night weekend event featured performances by Grammy Award-winning hip-hop artist Lecrae, Dove Award-winning singer-songwriter Jeremy Camp and Graham Saber. Jonathan Laurie, pastor at Harvest Orange County, shared a personal testimony of overcoming drug addiction and finding freedom in Jesus, and actress Madeline Carroll, who starred in the smash hit film “I  Can Only Imagine,” offered an opening prayer.

Earlier in the day Harvest hosted a youth tailgate party at Angel Stadium’s parking lot. Attendees enjoyed a skate park, rock climbing walls, video game trucks, Apple product giveaways and a live DJ and freestyle motocross (FMX) show.

SoCal Harvest continues Sunday with performances from Phil Wickham, Newsboys and Chris Tomlin. Gates open at 4 p.m. on Sunday, and the event begins at 6 p.m. Admission to the event is free, but there is a $15 charge per car for parking at the venue.

28,000 show up to first night of SoCal Harvest, more than 2,100 make professions of faith

ANAHEIM, Calif.SoCal Harvest, the annual evangelistic outreach started by pastor, evangelist and bestselling author Greg Laurie, kicked off its 30th anniversary crusade Friday at the Angel Stadium. The event, which has become a Southern California tradition, drew 28,000 people, with 2,150 making a profession of faith.

“You don’t clean your life up and come to Christ. You come to Christ and he will clean your life up,” Laurie said in a message that addressed America’s record high levels of suicide, opioid addiction and anxiety.

“Heaven is not for perfect people,” Laurie said. “Heaven is for forgiven people. You can be forgiven tonight.”

The first evening of the three-night weekend event featured a military appreciation ceremony and performances by Grammy-winning pop duo for KING & COUNTRY, the Passion worship band and guitarist-songwriter Dennis Agajanian.

Brennley Brown, the 17-year-old finalist of The Voice, sang a moving rendition of “God Bless America” during a military appreciation ceremony that included fireworks and a flag presentation. Dozens of active duty members, reserves and veterans unfurled a U.S. flag that covered about half of the Angel Stadium’s field. After the flag presentation, Former Navy SEAL and Actor Remi Adeleke offered an opening prayer.

“We want to kick off this year’s event with a special tribute to those who serve us,” Laurie said and added, “You know we talk about heroes … but a hero is someone who is willing to put their life on the line, and as far as I’m concerned anyone who takes on the uniform to serve us in the armed services is a hero.”

Laurie also spoke about the need for spiritual revival in America for which Harvest is preparing by launching a series of crusades in Southern California, Boise, Idaho, and Los Angeles over the next 20 months. The Harvest team wants to reach over one million people and see 100,000 professions of faith through the crusades.

“The only hope for America is a spiritual awakening, and the only hope is the message of the gospel because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever,” Laurie said.

SoCal Harvest 30th anniversary crusade comes to Anaheim’s Angel Stadium, Aug. 23-25

SoCal Harvest 30th anniversary crusade comes to Anaheim’s Angel Stadium, Aug. 23-25

ANAHEIM, Calif. – SoCal Harvest, an evangelistic crusade started by pastor, evangelist and bestselling author Greg Laurie, is coming to the Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Aug. 23-25. It will be the 30th year in a row that Laurie hosts the crusade, an event that has become not only a cherished Southern California tradition but also the longest-running evangelistic outreach in the U.S.

“I have to admit, it's pretty surprising,” Laurie told the Christian Post in a recent interview. “I never thought 30 years ago, we would still be doing these, especially on the scale that we're doing them. You know, since we started 30 years ago, we've gone all around the country and around the world, and have seen the power of the Gospel on display.

“But to think that we're still in Southern California 30 years later, in the same basic venue, which is the Angel Stadium … I've never heard of anything like this happening anywhere else.”

SoCal Harvest is a free, three-night event featuring performances by leading Christian artists and an evening message by Laurie. This year, for KING & COUNTRY, Passion, Lecrae, Jeremy Camp, Phil Wickham, Newsboys and Chris Tomlin, along other musical groups, will lead worship. On opening night, Brennley Brown of The Voice will sing “God Bless America” during a military appreciation ceremony that will include the unfurling of an American flag across the stadium’s field.

Laurie, whom Billy Graham called the “evangelist of the future,” has preached the gospel in person to millions of people throughout his life. Looking at the current state of America — recent mass shootings, political polarization and record levels of opioid addiction, depression and suicide — Laurie says people, especially the younger generations, need to hear a message of hope.

“I think there's just a lot of people out there that don't understand why there's still a hole in their heart, even when they've checked all the boxes that they think they should check to be happy. I myself used to drink. I myself used to use drugs. And I know how empty I was. Christ-filled that hole in my heart,” Laurie told the Christian Post.

Since 1990, Harvest Crusades have been held in the United States, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. More than 8 million people have attended Laurie’s crusades in person or via broadcast online and on TV, and an estimated 535,736 people have made professions of faith in Christ through Harvest Crusades since 1990.

SoCal Harvest will be streamed online on Facebook Live, YouTube Live, Apple TV and through various broadcast and streaming services. To learn more about SoCal Harvest, visit https://harvest.org/socal-harvest-2019.

Greg Laurie to Host 30th Annual SoCal Harvest Crusade Aug. 23-25 at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium

Greg Laurie to Host 30th Annual SoCal Harvest Crusade Aug. 23-25 at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium

ANAHEIM, Calif. – Greg Laurie, bestselling author and senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship of California and Hawaii, will host his 30th annual SoCal Harvest Crusade at the Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Calif., Aug. 23 - 25.

Called by Billy Graham the “evangelist of the future,” Laurie has preached the gospel in person to millions of people throughout his life. His crusades in Southern California are the longest-running evangelistic outreach in American history.

SoCal Harvest will feature three days of performances by renowned Christian artists Passion, For King & Country, Graham Saber, Lecrae, Jeremy Camp, Phil Wickham, Newsboys, Dennis Agajanian and Chris Tomlin. Laurie will speak each night and will invite attendees to ponder questions of meaning, happiness and eternity.

Special guests will also join Laurie at SoCal Harvest throughout the weekend. On opening night, Friday, Aug. 23, Brennley Brown of The Voice will sing “God Bless America” during a military appreciation ceremony that will include the unfurling of an American flag across the stadium’s field. Darryl Strawberry, author, former MLB All-Star right fielder and co-founder with his wife Tracy of Strawberry Ministries will join Laurie onstage Sunday evening.

The story of Harvest goes back to 1971, when Laurie, at the age of 17, walked away from a life of purposelessness and substance abuse and joined the Jesus Revolution that was sweeping across Southern California. A few years later, he began preaching and formed a small group Bible study. Nearly 46 years later, Laurie’s Bible study has developed into a church of more than 15,000 members across six different campuses in California and Hawaii, making it one of the most influential churches in the United States.

Laurie, a visionary with a heart for people, hosted his first Harvest Crusade in 1990, trailblazing a new approach to evangelism at the time. The 1990 crusade was “a casual evening of high energy music, authentic worship and a clear presentation of a biblical message.”

Since 1990, Harvest Crusades have been held in the United States, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. More than 8 million people have attended Laurie’s crusades in person or via broadcast online and on TV.

But while the Harvest movement has grown exponentially over the decades, its purpose has remained unchanged: reaching people with the gospel. An estimated 535,736 people have made professions of faith in Christ through Harvest Crusades since 1990.

“Looking back,” Laurie says, “I can see God’s hand at work from the very beginning. It has always been a part of God’s plan for us to know him and make him known.”

SoCal Harvest, like every crusade before it, is free to the public and is designed for all ages. No tickets are required for the event. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be a $15 per car and a $30 per bus charge for parking at Angel Stadium.

Spanish and American Sign Language interpretation and special needs and wheelchair seating will be available.

SoCal Harvest will be streamed online on Facebook LiveYouTube Live, Apple TV and through various broadcast and streaming services. To learn more about SoCal Harvest, visit https://harvest.org/socal-harvest-2019.

MORE THAN 10,000 MAKE PROFESSIONS OF FAITH AS GREG LAURIE CALLS FOR REVIVAL DURING 3-DAY SoCAL HARVEST AT ANGEL STADIUM

Some 100,000 Southern Californians Turn Out for 29th Annual SoCal Harvest, Aug. 17 – 19, While 325,000 More Tuned In Virtually Via Online Simulcast & Facebook Live

RIVERSIDE, Calif., August 20, 2018 —Some 100,000 Southern Californians packed out Angel Stadium of Anaheim during the three nights of the 29th annual SoCal Harvest, which ran from Aug. 17 – 19.  Bibles in hand and friends by their sides, thousands poured into the stadium venue ready to hear the Gospel delivered by pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie, who was joined by top Christian artists Chris Tomlin, MercyMe, and Phil Wickham over the course of the weekend.  Laurie spoke each night of the SoCal Harvest, placing special emphasis on California’s—and the nation’s—need for revival.

Laurie, who has likened the current state of our nation to the historically turbulent time in the U.S. in the 1960’s and 1970’s that ignited the spiritual awakening known as the Jesus Movement said, “Our state and our country need a spiritual awakening, and that starts right here, right now, with us. The last great revival in our country began in California, and we say, ‘Lord, do it again!’”

More than 10,000 people responded to Laurie’s nightly invitation to make a commitment of faith in Christ by walking onto the field of Angel Stadium to pray with a Harvest team member standing by, or by indicating their faith decision through the SoCal Harvest live internet broadcast.

Attendees of this year’s SoCal Harvest were encouraged to bring their Bibles to the event in order to make a public show of solidarity with the Word of God through a social media campaign called #StandWithTheBible.  The campaign was a response to a Bible billboard controversy that made national headlines in the days and weeks leading up to the event when a local real estate company removed billboards from Orange County’s Fashion Island mall—one of the area’s largest and most prominent malls—as well as the Irvine Spectrum, after receiving complaints and at least one “serious threat” because the ads featured an image of Pastor Laurie holding a Bible.

“Hold up your Bibles—we are not ashamed of the Word of God.  In fact, even non-believers know that there is power in this book,” said Laurie. “Everything you need to know is in the Bible, no matter if people don’t want it displayed on a billboard or anywhere else. Who is the Bible for?  It’s for you.  It’s for people who want to know the meaning and purpose of their lives.  It’s for people who want to get to heaven.  When trouble comes into your life, this is the first book you should go to.  Ten years ago when our son Christopher died in a car accident—the worst day of our lives—what got me through it was this book.”

Laurie said, “The message of the Bible answers all of our questions: Why are we here?  What is the meaning of life?  God says He created you, He loves you, and He has a plan for you.  You can put your faith in Christ and be forgiven of your sin in a moment—it can happen for you tonight.”

More than 325,000 participated in the SoCal Harvest virtually via live internet broadcasts and Facebook Live, with the outreach experiencing a 177% increase in its Facebook Live viewership over last year.  This year, Harvest partnered with 81 Christian organizations, churches, and social media influencers to broadcast the SoCal Harvest live on these organization’s Facebook pages.

Joining Laurie throughout the three-night event were top Christian recording artists including Chris Tomlin, MercyMe, Phil Wickham, Passion, Jordan Feliz, Andy Mineo, Lincoln Brewster, and Dennis Agajanian.  In addition, Laurie interviewed actress Madeline Carroll, star of the film, I Can Only Imagine, about her faith during the Sunday evening program.  Some of the top Freestyle Motocross riders in the world, including Jimmy Fitzpatrick and the “Fitz Army,” Jarryd McNeil, Taka Higashino, Destin Cantrell, and Todd Potter, were on-hand for an FMX show that took place on the track inside Angel Stadium on Saturday.

In addition to founding the Harvest Crusades, Laurie also serves as senior pastor of one of the largest churches in America, Harvest Christian Fellowship, which has campuses in Riverside and Irvine, California, and Maui, Hawaii.  He serves on the board of directors for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

The 2018 SoCal Harvest will kick off this Friday at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, bringing its three-night event back to Orange Country for the 29th year running, Aug. 17 – 19.  Founded by Southern California pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie in 1990, the SoCal Harvest is an evangelistic outreach designed to answer life’s big questions like: Why am I here?  Is God real?  What happens when I die?  The SoCal Harvest is free of charge and open to the public.

In addition to bringing a friend to this year’s event, Southern Californians are also encouraged to bring a Bible as part of the SoCal Harvest’s #StandWithTheBible campaign.  The campaign is a response to a story that made national headlines this past week when a local real estate company removed billboards from its Fashion Island mall and the Irvine Spectrum after receiving complaints and at least one “serious threat” that the ads featured an image of Pastor Laurie holding a Bible. On Friday, the event’s opening night, Laurie will ask everyone in attendance to hold the Bible high over their heads in a show of support for the “book of books.” Laurie hopes the campaign will be a positive way for Christians to stand up for the Word of God.

“Countless people throughout the ages have been transformed because of the Bible and its impact around the world is literally impossible to quantify,” said Laurie.  “Instead of being offended by it, more people ought to pick it up, read it and see for themselves what it has to say. I believe our cities, our nation and the world will be immeasurably better off if more people read and even more importantly follow what the Bible says.”

Throughout the weekend Laurie will be joined onstage by leading Christian musicians including Grammy winning songwriter and worship leader Chris Tomlin (the “most sung music artist in history”), Grammy nominated MercyMe (I Can Only Imagine), worship band Passion, Phil Wickham, Jordan Feliz, hip hop artist Andy Mineo, and renowned guitarist Lincoln Brewster (musicians vary by night).  In addition, during the Sunday evening program, Laurie will interview actress Madeline Carroll, co-star of the film, I Can Only Imagine.

Some of the top professional Freestyle Motocross riders and X-Games athletes in the world will be featured in an FMX show inside Angel Stadium on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., during the second night of the SoCal Harvest.  The show will include FMX legend and former world champion Nate Adams, Jimmy Fitzpatrick and the “Fitz Army,” Jarryd McNeil, Taka Higashino, Destin Cantrell, and Todd Potter.

Media credentials for the SoCal Harvest may be obtained by presenting company identification at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on the field level near the third base dugout (enter the stadium at Gate 2).  Media check-in begins at 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. on Sunday.  Please note that field access will be suspended between 6:30 – 7 p.m. on Saturday evening during the Freestyle Motocross show; media may cover the show from the third base dugout during this time.

In addition to the FMX riders, throughout the weekend Laurie will be joined onstage by leading Christian musicians including Grammy winning songwriter and worship leader Chris Tomlin (the “most sung music artist in history”), Grammy nominated MercyMe (I Can Only Imagine), worship band Passion, Phil Wickham, Jordan Feliz, hip hop artist Andy Mineo, and renowned guitarist Lincoln Brewster (musicians vary by night).  In addition, during the Sunday evening program, Laurie will interview actress Madeline Carroll, who most recently co-starred in the film, I Can Only Imagine.

2018 SoCAL HARVEST SEEKS TO IGNITE A 21st CENTURY JESUS REVOLUTION

2018 SoCAL HARVEST SEEKS TO IGNITE A 21st CENTURY JESUS REVOLUTION

29th Annual Southern California Harvest Crusades with Greg Laurie Returns to
Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Aug. 17 – 19, With Chart-Toppers Chris Tomlin,
MercyMe, Phil Wickham, Lincoln Brewster

RIVERSIDE, Calif., July 18, 2018 — Nearly 50 years after the Jesus Movement—one of the greatest spiritual awakenings of the 20th century—came to life in Southern California, local pastor and evangelist who was himself brought to faith in the movement, Greg Laurie is seeking to spark a similar revival in the Southland.  Dedicated to sharing a message of God’s love and igniting a “Jesus revolution” in a new generation, Laurie will bring the Harvest Crusades back to Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Aug. 17 – 19.  During the 2018 SoCal Harvest, Laurie will be joined by chart-topping Christian artists each night.

The 2018 SoCal Harvest is open to the public and admission is free.

The Jesus Movement of the 1960’s and 1970’s began in Southern California during a historically tumultuous time in the U.S. and brought spiritual awakening to the most unlikely characters—hippies and iconoclasts who rejected social standards and didn’t fit in with cultural norms. “There are so many parallels between the culture during that time and our current culture—racial unrest, political divide, and drug problems,” says Laurie.  “During the Jesus Movement, people prayed and God intervened. God transformed an unlikely generation and He can do it again. America needs a spiritual awakening, and I strongly believe that we need to again pray toward that end—a Jesus revolution for a new generation.”

Laurie, who founded the Harvest Crusades evangelistic outreach in Southern California in 1990, has returned to Orange County annually for the past 29 years to deliver the simple, life-changing message of the hope that can be found in Jesus Christ, making the Harvest Crusades the longest-running evangelistic outreach in U.S. history.  Called the “evangelist of the future” by the late Billy Graham, Laurie’s talks encompass topics that appeal to people of any age and answer questions like: Why am I here?  Is God real?  What happens when I die?

Laurie will be joined onstage by top Christian musicians including Grammy winning songwriter and worship leader Chris Tomlin (the “most sung music artist in history”), Grammy nominated MercyMe (I Can Only Imagine), worship band Passion, Phil Wickham, Jordan Feliz, hip hop artist Andy Mineo, and renowned guitarist Lincoln Brewster.  In addition, during the Saturday evening program, Laurie will interview actress Madeline Carroll, who most recently co-starred in the film, I Can Only Imagine.

Laurie has partnered with co-author Ellen Vaughn to tell the story of the Jesus Movement in a new book called Jesus Revolution: How God Transformed an Unlikely Generation and How He Can Do It Again Today, which will be released by Baker Publishing in September.
